Frequently Answered

Do I need to season my Krustic Cast Iron before first use?
Our raw cast iron comes pre-seasoned, so you can start baking right away. Seasoning is simply baked-on oil, and with regular use it builds into an even better easy-release surface over time.
Is raw cast iron hard to maintain?
Not really. The routine is simple: wash, dry completely, and rub on a very thin layer of oil. Regular use does most of the work and helps keep the seasoning in great shape.
Can I wash it with soap?
Yes. A little modern dish soap is fine. Just don’t soak it or put it in the dishwasher, since lingering moisture and dishwashers can strip seasoning and lead to rust.
Can I cook acidic foods in it?
Yes, with some judgment. In a well-seasoned pot, quick cooks with tomatoes, wine, or citrus are usually fine. For long acidic simmers, enameled cast iron is the better choice.
What if rust appears?
Rust is fixable. Scrub it off, dry the pot well, add a very thin coat of oil, and re-season if needed. It’s a maintenance issue, not the end of the pot.
Can I use it on the stovetop, in the oven, or over open flame?
Yes. Raw cast iron is built for kitchen cooktops, ovens, grills, and open-flame cooking.
