How long does the starter usually take to activate?
Most starters wake up in about 2 to 4 days. Keep it at a steady room temperature, stay consistent with feedings, and you’ll give it the best chance to come alive quickly.
How do I know it’s ready to bake with?
When it looks bubbly, spongy, and reliably doubles within about 12 hours of feeding, it’s active and ready to start pulling its weight in your dough.
Is this a good starter for beginners?
Yes. The process is simple, the feeding formula is clearly laid out, and your starter includes video guidance to walk you through the revival step by step. It is a much more confident way to begin than trying to figure everything out from scratch.
Can this become my forever starter?
Yes. Once active, it can live on indefinitely with proper care. Keep it on the counter if you bake often, or store it in the fridge and feed it weekly if you bake more occasionally.
Do I need special ingredients to get started?
No. Just white flour, whole wheat flour, room-temperature water, and a jar. We recommend sticking with that white-and-whole-wheat blend during activation for the best start.
